I was born and raised in the East Bay Area
in Northern California. I had originally gone to CA Culinary Academy to become a professional chef and graduated in 2006 with
an A.A. in Culinary Arts. I then went on to finish my A.S. in Business Management and graduated in June 2008. I worked in
the culinary field as a baker, bakery manager & cake decorator for about 3 years before the economy took a tumble and
I decided to look for a new career; this is where I found the insurance industry. I had attended several NAIW local meetings
with my mom, long time IWASAC member Laura Gutierrez, and became interested in the field. A receptionist position came up
at the company I am currently with and I decided to go for it. Within 9 months of being at Deans & Homer, I was given
the opportunity to get a P&C license and moved up to our Renters Insurance Dept., where I am currently. I have moved up
to lead marketing representative/underwriter in my department and am still working to go even farther.
I never would have guessed five years ago
that I would have a career in the insurance industry, but I am so happy and fortunate the opportunity has come my way. Since
being in the industry, I realized the importance of networking and being an active member in my community and NAIW gives me
an opportunity to do so. I joined IWASAC after attending a few meetings (Insurance Women’s Association of Southern Alameda
County) and my first year as a member I became the chairman of all committees. As chairman I worked on the “TIKE”
(toddler’s information kept for emergencies) program and really had a chance to learn more about NAIW and the opportunities
they have to offer. This year I was elected the IWASAC’s local president and am looking forward to becoming more involved
in the association and attending even more events. The networking, friendship, guidance and education NAIW offers has become
a very important in my success and for that I couldn’t be more thankful J
