NAIW NATIONAL IS LOOKING FOR BRIDGE BUILDERS!!

Below is the new President's Challenge form
sent out from our International President Linda Wilson known as "Bridge Builders". This form is completed
annually by each member for participation in the areas of "Growth & Recognition" in the NAIW. Please take
the time to print it off and complete it during the year. This past year our Region actually had the MOST participation
of their members in completing the form! Let's take it another year and show the rest of the Region's just what
Region VIII is made of!

YOUR ASSOCIATION
CAN PUT THE GOOD IN GOOD FRIDAY!!!
Is your association looking for something different to do on Good Friday? Children aren't
the only ones that look forward to the Easter Bunny! "Easter Baskets for the Mature" is a great community
action project and you are guaranteed to make a day in the lives of our Mature Citizens a "good"
one.
Here
is how you can get involved:
No need to buy fancy baskets, just clean and save the small quart baskets
that you buy your strawberries in. Last year I was able to purchase them at a local fruit stand for very little money.
Ask members to donate Easter grass, chocolate, jelly beans or even note pads and stamps and fill the baskets at
a meeting or someone's home. You will want to make arrangements with a local Senior Center for delivery and I
am sure they will be thrilled. Wouldn't it be fun to have the Easter Bunny accompany you! Make it a Good Friday
for our Mature Citizens!

March is Red Cross Month
by Regina Lemanowicz - Public Relations Liaison
Each year, the president of the United States proclaims March
"Red Cross Month."
How did this tradition come about? Since Clara Barton created
the American Red Cross in 1881, it was largely dependent for publicity and funds on the spontaneous support of people who
learned of catastrophic events and the Red Cross response to them. News of an event broke. The American Red Cross rushed to
the scene with help. People around the country came forth with outpourings of volunteer assistance and donations of funds
and supplies. In 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared the month of March 1943 as “Red Cross Month.”
Below is an update from Joe Craver, CEO, American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties sent from member
Ruth Hinckfuss who is also an ARC volunteer:
In just over one month since the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the Red Cross has helped more than 1.3 million people, spent or allocated $80 million of
the $284 million donated to meet the urgent needs of the survivors, and will continue to aid hundreds of thousands more in
the months ahead until the last donated dollar is spent.
Thanks to the generosity and dedication of you,
our donors, supporters and volunteers, the Red Cross has had the resources to help the people of Haiti in their greatest time
of need.
I thought you might be interested to see what the Red Cross has accomplished over the past month in our relief
efforts. Please visit www.sdarc.org to read a full report on the month's activities or click http://www.sdarc.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=t3BaX7%2fSBBI%3d&tabid=36.
